Nude figure

Martin began life drawing and painting in the 1990s, when he was living in Australia. He got the bug and has been doing it ever since.

He regards life drawing as an artist’s equivalent of a musician practising scales. If you can do it well, you can paint or draw just about anything. But until you try, you’ll never know how difficult it is. Even if you get a figure 99% right, it won’t necessarily come to life. And that is even before you introduce any artistic re-interpretation of what you are seeing.

Martin has been influenced by some of the greats. He loves Egon Schiele and Amedo Modigliani; and never ceases to be awed at Picasso’s genius for capturing the human figure with a single stroke or outline.
